1960s Bourbon Street

I’ve been going through a whole ton of older photos I’ve gotten over time and finally getting them digitized and uploaded. This is one of my favorites, so far:

The 500 Club (home of Lilly Christine, the cat girl!), at 500 Bourbon St, is now occupied by the Bourbon Street Blues Company, Al Hirt’s is now (yet another) cheezy Daquari shop.

Cool pic. I love to look at old pictures of the city and I like the comparison between what was there then and what is located in that spot now.

I'm Tess Conrad, Yankee gone native in New Orleans. After dozens visits to research and write about NO's history I figured it'd be cheaper to just move, and in 2002 we did just that.

The blog was started as a companion to my New Orleans-themed shop (now closed), and give visitors a glimpse into life here. I'm keeping the blog here, even though I haven't been as good at updating it as I ought to be. I still write, not to mention photograph everything in sight, and gambol in the garden.
