Krewe du Vieux 2007

Ah, the KDV…

It’s the first parade of Carnival season, the most low-tech, and by far the most irreverent. We decided to go to the Krewe party afterward, so we costumed. Usually I go all out, but in this case, it was Charlie’s costume that took the cake.

The parade’s theme this year was “Habitat for Insanity.” Charlie was dressed as a stressed out drag queen…too far gone to really put himself together properly. One thing you need to understand is that he’s quite bowlegged- he always walks like a sailor just off the boat. This really made the huge pink tutu sway most alluringly.

As our friend Peter said, “And he’s usually so butch!” Despite being quite out of (usual) character, and some unease before he got dressed, Charlie got frighteningly into it. He was the star of the crowd, getting cheered, and blowing kisses to the crowd.

Kim belongs to the sub-krewe of Mama Roux, and they were glammed up Beauticians, so imaging what fun she had with that wig.
