I was living in New Orleans at Mrs. Walters rooming house on the corner of Camp and Julia in 1967 after having fallen victim to Faulkner and Tennessee Williams in high school. I was twenty years old and worked as a dishwasher at the Roosevelt Hotel. I would often dine at the Camp Inn which was located across from my rooming house at the north- east corner of Camp and Julia. I spent a lot of time at “Cody’s” a country western bar on St. Charles Ave. operated by a woman named Cody. Do you know if any photographs exist of the Camp Inn or photos of the corner of Camp and Julia from that era?

Thank you for helping to keep alive the spirit and history of this grand old city.

Hey Karin, thanks for visiting!

No, the shop was online, but we’re out of business now- a combination of the economy, burnout, and my daughter leaving for college.
The final wrapup is on my personal blog here, and although it was a ton of fun it’s also nice to have my house back!

All that’s really left are the dozens of “inappropriate beads” that I’d collected as I went along buying things for the business- ones that are amazingly tacky, gaudy, sleazy, or just plain awful- and I need to get focused on getting them online and giving them away to whoever is funky enough to want them- things like the freaky clown and the shudder-inducing roaches.

That is one of the things that is most interesting about Nola – the eclectic mix of people and acceptance of the odd to be normal.

I was in N.O. just last year and kids were putting scrunched soda cans on their sneakers and tapped danced for hand outs – got plenty they were good.

Hey, Kristina, thanks! The shrimp will be just fine, but if you wanted to order some online, Cajun Grocer is pricey but great- the 1 lb pound of tails would be the way to go. You've picked a great time of year- October's beautiful and there's lots going on! I used to have a "new visitor's guide" up on the store website, I should update it and post it. Hello Tess,
I love you website. I’ll be visiting New Orleans in October and am researching now so as not to miss anything exciting. I’ve gotten a lot of information from this site. I will be trying your Crawfish Etouffee recipe as soon as I can find Crawfish in Arizona. LOL I suppose I will have to try the Shrimp version.
In any case, thanks for sharing your pictures and information.
