1964 Drag Queen

Drag Queen Circa 1964 in the French Quarter

Or, possibly this isn’t an actual, general-purpose drag queen, but just drag for Mardi Gras day.

This came from a big lot of slides from 1964 and thereabouts that did include some Carnival photos, so, even back then, anything goes on Mardi Gras day.

I'm Tess Conrad, Yankee gone native in New Orleans. After dozens visits to research and write about NO's history I figured it'd be cheaper to just move, and in 2002 we did just that.

So now I own a NOLA-themed shop , and am part time at the Preservation Resource Center, which works to "preserve the historic neighborhoods that make New Orleans unique."
