Even without magnolias, the trees are covered

All along the parade route the beads that didn’t quite make it to people’s hands build up until they’re fairly dripping with them.

The leaves come in a few weeks, and the elements go to work. By summer most of the beads will have broken off, and the few that remain will be bleached white.
