Bacchus’ scary clown

By Tess

(Sorry- I promised a pic a day, and I’m behind. Here’s why. I’ll do better, and catch up today.)

Okay, it’s not the clown that’s the problem- he’s more than cheery enough- it’s me. I have clown issues, but that’s a story for another time.

Bacchus is one of the huge super Krewes with thousands of members. They roll on Super Sunday- an all day event where the huge parades just keep on coming. We, like many many people uptown, take a grill, chairs, and lots of friends and settle in for about 12 hours.

This is their title float- each year it carries the parade’s theme in a huge elaborate sign.

All of the sparkles are fiber optic lights- Bacchus was one of the first krewes (possibly the very first) to use these tiny, programmable lights to create all kinds of effects.

A shot of what the clown looks like with just the lights after the jump.

Bacchus was the first Krewe to have famous Kings reign on their parade- some have been big names (Charlton Heston, Bob Hope, Jackie Gleason), some not so big (Alan Thicke, Steve Gutenberg, Tom Arnold), and some completely inexplicable.

Like this year: Hulk Hogan.
