Suddenly, it’s Mardi Gras time

Carnival is so early this year- in the office we basically skipped over Christmas and headed right into the year’s main event.

The first ‘real’ parade will be on the 19th, by the Krewe de Vieux. They’re made up of lots of mini-krewes, and everyone tries to out-bawdy everyone else.

It’s not like the big parades- it’s the only one that goes through the French Quarter, so that means no big floats. They also have no big budget, so they hand construct everything they drag along with them, so you never know what you’re going to get, but it’s always strange and wonderful.

After that things are quiet until the 25th, with each day getting progressively bigger and bigger.
